In the latest beta of the WhatsApp application, bearing the number 2.23.8.4 on Android, WABetaInfo discovered that Meta had extensively modified the interface of its flagship messaging applicationadding a navigation bar at the bottom of the screen.

This new feature comes after WhatsApp had already added many interesting new features to its application, including the ability to lock your conversations with your fingerprint, or even a text editor similar to that of Snapchat or Instagram.

WhatsApp gets a new interface

As screenshots from WABetaInfo show, WhatsApp is developing a modified interface for the application featuring a navigation bar. Thanks to this navigation bar, it will certainly be easier for users to navigate between the different sections of the application since they will be easily accessible from the bottom of the screen.

There is a tab for Chats, one for Communities, one for Status and another for Calls. On the current interface, these different categories are accessible at the top of the screen, which is not always practical since they do not fall easily under your finger. By placing them at the bottom in a clearer way, WhatsApp may therefore hope to improve the user experience.

The modified user interface, which includes a bottom navigation bar, is still under development and will be rolled out to everyone in a future app update. However, as always, the feature may well remain in beta for a few more months. The iOS beta application, for example, has still not received the functionality, which could indicate that the Android application will be the first to benefit from it in a stable version.

In the meantime, be reminded that WhatsApp now gives you better control over your ephemeral messages, and you’ll soon have the option to pin important messages to the top of your conversations, a handy addition that should be very welcome by some groups that would have to use the “favorite” function to save a message until then.
