ALGIERS – The interest in supporting the integration of renewable energies (ENR) into the national energy network was highlighted, Sunday in Algiers, as part of the development of the sector, using available infrastructure.

During a workshop dedicated to “ENR” under the theme of the integration of solar energy and the development of green hydrogen, several Algerian experts, including representatives of the diaspora abroad, took up the challenge what it means to offer adequate solutions for the integration of ENR into the national network.

For the Algerian expert established in Germany, Mohamed Ghazli, successful integration of ENR into the national network requires specific technologies to ensure continuity of supply.

For his part, Professor Kamel Youcef Toumi, from the University of Massachusetts in the United States, highlighted the human factor, underlining the importance of skills within the Algerian University.

According to him, human resources have a very important role, believing that we should not only focus on the technical aspect “but build a youth aware of the challenges linked to the need for the development of alternative energies”.

Mr. Toumi also considered it necessary to seize the opportunities offered by scientific research and innovation to produce reliable renewable energy in terms of supply.

For his part, renewable energy expert Ali Chaknane stressed that national energy infrastructures must offer technical solutions that comply with international standards to integrate ENR into the network.

According to him, Algeria has the ambition to invest in the ENR sector because it has several assets whether in the South, through a high level of sunshine or through its natural gas transport network which can also transport green hydrogen.

For his part, Professor Nouar Tabet called for reducing shortages and delays in the development of projects in the sector.

This is all the more so, he said, as Algeria has for several years had the capacity to produce photovoltaic cells and equipment specific to the sector.

Noting the availability of ENR resources, Professor Tabet pleaded for national operators to collaborate with Europe, Algeria’s important partner in energy, to acquire the technologies necessary for the development of green hydrogen through the country.

Note that this event, organized by the Algerian Club of Excellence and High Skills (ACEHC), will continue on Monday during a session which will be closed with the publication of recommendations related to the theme of the meeting.
