The inter-union, which led the battle once morest the pension reform, will call on Monday for mobilization on Friday, October 13 for wages, gender equality, the defense of the environment, we learned this Friday from union sources.

The leaders of the eight main French unions (CFDT, CGT, FO, CFTC, CFE-CGC, Unsa, Solidaires, FSU) met as an inter-union on Friday morning and worked on a press release which will be published on Monday.

“We held an inter-union meeting this morning, we will make public Monday noon (…) a mobilization date which will be in the middle of October and on the issues of wages, austerity, gender equality and which will also talk regarding the environment”, declared the secretary general of the CGT, Sophie Binet, during a debate organized within the framework of the University of social movements and solidarity, in Bobigny.

“Let us put all our strength into making this date a success”

“We really have to put all our strength into making this date a success,” she added, specifying that the mobilization would take place on a Friday, which echoes the “Fridays for future” mobilizations of environmentalists.

Several union officials have confirmed that the date to be announced is October 13, the inter-union following in the footsteps of the European Trade Union Confederation, which provides for two mobilization dates, October 13 and December 13, according to Yvan Ricordeau, the number two of the CFDT.

“The embers of the retirement social movement are (…) not extinguished. (…) Having a common expression from the start of the school year seemed important to us”, in a context of high inflation and while the question of salaries is “not settled”, underlined Murielle Guilbert, co-general delegate of Solidaires, also present in Bobigny.

Show a united front

For the unions, the challenge is also to continue to be united, while several important negotiations will open with employers and the government, in particular on unemployment insurance and on supplementary pensions. The union unity that was built during the movement once morest the pension reform, is an opportunity to rebalance in favor of the unions the balance of power with the government and the employers, hopes Sophie Binet.

The unions had met one last time before the holidays on June 15, to take stock of an unsuccessful six-month mobilization once morest the pension reform, which should officially come into effect on September 1. They had then promised to work on joint proposals, and had already mentioned the possibility of mobilization within the European framework.

The employers plan to return to school on Monday and Tuesday at the Paris Longchamp racecourse, with Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne as a distinguished guest, who will deliver a speech at the start of the followingnoon.

A few days before being confirmed in her post, Élisabeth Borne had brought together employers and unions on July 12 at Matignon, a first since March 2021. The opportunity for everyone to lay the foundations for a social agenda that she had described as “ambitious” and “dense”.
