Intel Raptor Lake will profoundly modify the Intel NUC. It’s much bigger and now looks like a regular desktop PC.
At Frandroid, we have always welcomed the Intel NUC offer with kindness. These mini PCs are reference boxes to accompany the release of Intel Core solutions. Practical, compact, powerful… and turnkey. They integrate Intel processors welded together with a unique design. But, things are changing.
The NUC 13 Extreme (code name NUC Raptor Canyon) will no longer be so compact, it even seems much larger than the previous model.
Instead of 8 liters, for the Dragon Canyon, we go to a 13.9 liter format. In fact, this gives twice the dimensions of a classic NUC.
Bigger, more powerful
Intel’s NUC is getting bigger and bigger, dropping its roots as a result. The NUC 13 Extreme is now almost a classic desktop PC, at least when it comes to its external appearance. One might also argue that Intel’s new solutions require more power, and it’s well known that this needs to be cooled as well.
During TwitchCon, Intel gave us a look at the NUC 13 Extreme, codename Raptor Canyon
Larger chassis to support larger GPUs (up-to 3 slot), single PCB connects both GPU and Compute Element, which has been drastically redesigned with improved cooling

Now not only dedicated graphics cards with dual-slot coolers can be installed, but also triple-slot cards.
This should also increase the TDP, although there are no concrete numbers at this time. For the demonstration, Intel installed a large Asus TUF GeForce RTX 3000. We imagine that it will also accommodate Core i9-K processors.
We will soon discover all the secrets of the Intel NUCs dedicated to the 13th generation, for the moment we have to be content with a few photos.
