When in 2016 the initiative of the National University of Mar del Plata to open the Medicine career, Loreley Laboratto, who at that time was in his last year of high school at the Minerva Institute, went every week to the booth closest to his house and called the university to find out if there was any news. At only 17 years old, she was clear that she wanted to be a doctor and she knew that going to a private university or moving to La Plata was not within her possibilities.
“Everything happened as it had to be. In mid-2016 they announced that they were opening the race and as soon as they started the registration process for 2017 I signed up,” he says in dialogue with 0223 the 24-year-old girl who this Friday received the special recognition for the best average (9.28) of the first class of Physicians graduated from the house of higher studies in Mar del Plata. “I knew that for my economic possibilities I was not going to be able to pay the fee for the private college, which was the only one in the city that taught the course, much less was I going to be able to afford the transfer to La Plata, so I was attentive to the registration date so as not to miss the opportunity” , remember.
For Loreley there is no specific event that made her decide to study Medicine, what there was always was a desire to achieve the title and dedicate her life to the career. “I cannot specify a date or a specific event, I always knew that I wanted to be a doctor, I always had a vocation“, the youngest of three siblings and the second in her family to obtain a university degree enthuses. “My older brother graduated as a lawyer and in a few days, my other brother graduated as a chemical engineer,” explains Loreley.
As the young woman explains, during her academic years she learned to organize herself to be able to keep her degree “up to date” and not neglect her social life. “When they see the average, many think that one did not have a life for six years and the reality is that yes, when I started studying it was very difficult for me to organize myself and I spent whole days locked up studying, but later I managed my time and learned how to study,” she says At the same time, she clarifies that having achieved the highest grades of her promotion is due, on the one hand, to the fact that she always liked studying and, on the other hand, to the fact that she is “self-demanding and detail-oriented, almost obsessive with myself.” “I always want to understand everything,” she adds, clarifying the support she received from her parents.
“I was lucky that my family always supported me in everything, both emotionally and financially. This is a career in which if you have to work, it is very difficult to keep up with it and my parents never had anything left over. My dad He is a bricklayer and had a period in 2019 in which he lost his job, he had to go out and do chores. We didn’t have dinner, sometimes we asked on credit, much less to buy notes. We got to live on the street for a while, so I had to read from my cell phone or hopefully from a computer monitor, it was a very hard and super stressful time”, he recalls.
Despite the vicissitudes that she had to go through, Loreley does not deny that time or victimize herself: she thanks her parents for having been present and for having done everything in their power so that she never thinks of abandoning her dream. . “I think this title is also theirs, my dad and my mom who always instilled in us that studying saves you and that you can fulfill your dreams. This achievement is also theirs,” he says.
Asked how she is continuing her career, Loreley explains that she plans to specialize in Cardiology: “It is a specialty that is constantly being updated and I would like to specialize in a highly complex hospital in the Federal Capital,” says the young woman, although she acknowledges who these days enjoys the achievements with his family and friends.
On social networks, Loreley shared an emotional post following receiving the distinction. “I would like to thank the Public University, because if this great opportunity had not arisen in 2017, right when I was finishing high school, I would never have been able to fulfill this dream,” she wrote.
“But above all, I want to thank my parents. Whenever in a conversation they asked me regarding where I came from or regarding my family and I commented on something, the answers I received countless times highlighted that all our achievements were going to be doubly meritorious, because “we came from below” or “we had never had much” In my case, I always felt the opposite. I always felt that I was missing absolutely nothing, and that’s all thanks to them“, the text continues.
In the post, the young woman details that her parents “always fought so that my brothers and I might have everything we needed, and much more. They never stopped pushing forward, even in the most difficult moments; because it is true that We once had to live on the street, in a van and, without going any further, during the pandemic we asked for credit in a store to have a plate of food at night. They taught me that regardless of the circumstances, with work, effort and a lot of passion you can get ahead. and that there are no dreams that cannot be fulfilled. They taught me the value of study. Not all the time in the universe would be enough for me to return everything they did for me. And this achievement is yours,” he wrote.
“For my part, I promise to practice this beautiful profession until the last day of my life with the same love that I felt from the first day I chose her, and for which I would choose her a million more times,” she closed.
