The magician Mr Tarno admits to learning magic autodidactically. When selling martabak, Mr Tarno entertained his buyers, who were dominated by children, by performing classic magic acts.

“No one taught me. Selling martabak while magic. For example, tearing paper, ‘Come on, brothers and sisters, buy martabak, I’ll do magic’. I taught myself. The capital is cheap,” said Mr. Tarno at the Rumpi studio: No Secret, Transmedia , South Jakarta, yesterday.

Pak Tarno told his story from when he was little. Since childhood, he was abandoned by his mother, when his father died when he was only 3 years old.

After his father died, Pak Tarno was raised by his grandmother. Meanwhile, his mother left him.

“The father died, the mother, instead of taking care of the child, was abandoned when she was young,” he said emotionally.

Pak Tarno, who was having difficulty speaking, suddenly became emotional when talking regarding his mother. The elderly magician cried and suddenly found it difficult to talk regarding his mother.

“I did whatever I might to do. Grandma was old, she looked for food herself, if she didn’t work, she just ate leaves,” he recalled.

Finally, Pak Tarno received information regarding his mother’s whereregardings when she became an artist. The mother is known to be in Sumatra.

Pak Tarno got the story, his mother told everyone that Pak Tarno, the magician, was his son. However, many people don’t believe it and think their mother is just imagining it.

“I also met, I was already an artist, I was old. He told Tarno people regarding my son. No one believed him,” he said.

“Finally I came to Sumatra…,” Pak Tarno cried once more.

“‘I’m sorry sir, ma’am, I’m really his son, he was abandoned when he was little’. (People near where his mother lived said), ‘Yes, he’s been recognized for a long time, it’s really bad that his father died and was taken care of’. People have acknowledged that he has become an artist. I don’t believe it,” he explained.

At the moment of the meeting, Pak Tarno, who was very hurt, said that his mother apologized to him. Pak Tarno admits that he still feels very hurt when he remembers his childhood.

“Yeah, just saying that, ‘I’m sorry No. Tarno is little, I don’t take care of him. Now he’s old’. Now I still feel sick. I used to eat clover leaves, water hyacinth, boiled leaves of any kind, it was hard to eat rice, even corn. “You have to work as a coolie before you can eat, people at my school are already working, and you don’t have to pay for first grade,” said Mr Tarno haltingly.

Until finally he migrated to Jakarta. He has held various jobs, from being a puppeteer to selling oil.

“I don’t get any money from selling oil from morning until noon, the bamboo bridge road. It’s not selling, the bamboo bridge is slipping. Well, I’ve just walked home. Try trading water, ‘Ma’am, I’m asking you to pay for the water trade when it’s sold.’ “It’s okay, it’s okay, I’ve sold it, I’ve just deposited it,” he said Mr Tarno.
