150 years of Innsbruck skin clinic: A success story in dermatology

In Innsbruck, as in many other cities, it was the surgical clinic that treated venereal diseases until the 19th century. Because many STDs showed skin and mucous membrane changes, special expertise developed here. In the 1870s, an outpatient clinic for venereal diseases was set up, followed by a separate clinic for syphilis in 1873 on the initiative of Eduard Lang. In 1874 Professor Lang also began to give systematic lectures on the pathology and therapy of skin diseases.

She was able to attract highly qualified doctors and researchers who helped advance knowledge of dermatology.
