Let’s find out all the details.
The other news presented by Samsung at SDC24
As anticipated at the beginning, at SDC24 Samsung has announced many new features: first of all it presented the One UI 7the next version of the customized interface which will be based on Android 15. Secondly, it “promoted” the same One UI with a single brand which will represent the software used by the main products made by the company, such as smartphones, tablets, smart TVs and smart appliances.
The news, however, does not end here: as we know, in fact, Samsung has an infinite catalog of devices and solutions, also and above all for the smart home, among the undisputed protagonists of the SDC24 in all its facets.
SmartThings grows and prepares to welcome the “Home Insight” functionality
When we talk about Samsung and smart homes, we cannot help but think of SmartThings, the brand’s platform that allows you to control and automate the myriad of home devices supported directly by Samsung Galaxy branded smartphones, tablets and smartwatches.
At the SDC24the South Korean giant has highlighted the expansion of the platform (in terms of users who use, over 350 million, and in terms of partners who create compatible devices, over 350) but that’s not all: in fact an important update arrives, the introduction of a called functionality Home Insightdesigned for help users manage their smart home more efficiently.
Home Insight will go to analyze in real time user data and usage patterns, history and statistics of connected devices in the home, to then provide personalized advice useful for optimizing consumption: The SmartThings app could, for example, send reminders to turn off inactive devices when the user is away from home or to turn off lights left on during the day.
Samsung Galaxy smartphones will become pointers to control smart TVs
Beyond Home Insight, SmartThings will soon improve his skills substitute for smart TV remote control. In fact, within the app, Samsung will soon insert a sort of touchpad that will make a cursor appear on the screen on the TV and, via the smartphone display, the user will be able to interact with the TV as if it were the screen of a large notebook .
The news in this sense will not stop with the addition of this touchpad: in fact it seems that Samsung is working on the implementation of a TV control mode via smartphone: in a nutshell, the user will simply have to point it towards the screen and move it to take control of a cursor; it’s just a matter of heir of the Nintendo Wii controller or, to use more terminology care to the South Korean company, sort of Air Command in salsa smart TV.
Samsung Galaxy smartphones/smartwatches will also become keys for smart locks
Samsung announced that it will soon adopt the standard Aliro smart lock (a standard of Connectivity Standards Alliancethe same organization as the Matter standard) to improve functionality Digital Home Key dell’app Samsung Wallet.
In a nutshell, this innovation will enable the features on the South Korean giant’s smartphones and smartwatches “tap-to-unlock” (tap to unlock) e “hands-free unlocking” (hands-free unlocking) with any smart lock compatible with this standard. With this addition, Samsung equals functionality Home Key of its long-time rival Apple.
The functionality will exploit NFC protocols (for tap-to-unlock) and UWB (for hands-free unlock) and will not require an internet connection (these are protocols that work locally between smartphone/smartwatch and lock). 2025, therefore, will be the year of smart locks that support the Aliro smart lock standard: we are awaiting the launch of the first compatible models.
