Owner of De Frietist in Kortenberg, Sven has had to manage to continue selling his products despite the increase in the cost of living in Belgium in recent months.
Asked by HLN, the man says he doesn’t want customers to buy cheaper fries. “We prepare a lot of food ourselves and for our snacks we invariably choose A brands (like Mora, Beckers, etc). Last year, for example, A-brands became 20% more expensive to buy, compared to just 7% for B-brands.”
The chip shop “J’ai la patate” in difficulty: “Starting over once more is hard! But I would”
He therefore opted to open a new chip shop, Be Friet, right next to his where he offers so-called “brand B” at reduced prices. “I want to avoid customers saying that the quality of De Frietist has gone down, so I decided to create a second chip shop in the same building”.
Thanks to this idea, the customer has the choice between so-called “brand A” products or “brand B” snacks, 50 cents cheaper.
