BEIJING – The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, affirmed, Wednesday from Beijing, that the current economic indicators set Algeria up as an “important market and strategic country” for investors, qualifying the Algerian-Chinese relations in the field of energy and mines of “privileged and exemplary”.

“All the current economic indicators establish Algeria as an important market and a strategic country for investors”, declared Mr. Arkab in a speech delivered during the Algerian-Chinese Business Forum, noting “economic stability, modern infrastructure meeting international standards, and Algeria’s ambitious sectoral strategies, in addition to the competitive production cost and qualified human resources”.

Algeria has adopted a series of measures aimed at “achieving strategic objectives, adapting the advantages of investments and improving the business climate to attract foreign capital carrying technology and experience”, explained the minister.

After asserting that the Algerian-Chinese relations in the energy and mining sector were “privileged and exemplary, which is reflected in the projects carried out by the two countries in the field of research and exploration of hydrocarbons , mining and petrochemicals”, the minister highlighted “the fruitful partnership” between the Sonatrach group and many Chinese companies.

For his part, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Karim Bibi Triki, affirmed that Algeria had made in recent years “significant efforts to modernize and develop its infrastructures in the field of Information and communication (ICT)”, recalling that the investments made in this field were an “opportunity for many Chinese companies to carry out a number of important projects”.

After revealing Algeria’s internet penetration rate, considered one of the “best in the Middle East and Africa region”, Karim Bibi Triki affirmed that Algeria was “determined to play a center in ICT at the regional level and aspired to do so in partnership with China”.

For his part, the Minister of Commerce and Export Promotion, Tayeb Zitouni, indicated that the state visit of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to China had achieved “excellent commercial and economic results”. stressing that the two countries “have agreed to define the list of national products to be exported to China”, including agricultural products, pharmaceuticals, building materials and processed products derived from hydrocarbons.

Mr. Zitouni called on economic operators to “exploit this agreement and work to increase the volume of exports from Algeria” to the Chinese market.

Furthermore, the Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun indicated that the signing of several new agreements between Algeria and China, some of which concern the construction of factories by the private sector, was “a something very encouraging for the revival of the industrial sector”, stressing that the new law on investment which offers facilitations and advantages has had the effect of reassuring Chinese operators as to the establishment of a new economic partnership and industry with their Algerian counterparts”.

Kamel Moula, President of the Council for Algerian Economic Renewal (CREA) announced for his part the creation of the Algerian-Chinese Business Council “for the consolidation of links between the economic actors” of the two countries, noting the will of the President of the Republic to “encourage and consolidate economic cooperation with China”.

After mentioning the “significant improvement” of the business climate in Algeria, following the reforms initiated by President Tebboune, Mr. Moula reiterated his invitation to Chinese companies to raise the level of economic collaboration with Algerian economic operators and to benefit advantages and means offered by Algeria”.

At the close of the Algerian-Chinese Business Forum, 12 cooperation and partnership agreements were signed between public and private Algerian companies and Chinese companies in several fields, particularly in the information technology sector. information and communication, pharmaceutical production, energy, transport and the food industry.
