In 2010, action movie lovers were salivating like Pavlov’s dog, when the first action movie was announced. The indestructibles, which brought together the cream of the genre: Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren and Jason Statham. However, the experience of seeing it was similar to going to a 5-star Michelin restaurant and ending up there eating fried eggs with rice. Schwarzenegger and Willis barely appeared, the script was almost non-existent and the action sequences left much to be desired.
The sequel He didn’t wait long and his promise was also a complete disappointment. The group was joined by Liam Hemsworth, Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme, while Schwarzenegger wisely dropped out (his appearance in the first part was almost non-existent anyway). Think of the same Michelin restaurant and fried eggs with rice, only now served with two slices of tomato on the side of the plate (Norris and Van Damme).
To the third part Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes, Mel Gibson and Antonio Banderas inexplicably joined. But nothing can help this terrible saga, since the problems are always the same. Norris and Van Damme withdrew and Steven Seagal refused to participate in all three parts. Although the problems of the infamous actor are legendary, it must be recognized that his decision this time was more than sensible.
Now comes the fourth part of The indestructibles, which makes us think that, following all, fried eggs with rice are a delight. This is the equivalent of moldy French bread and expired butter.
Curiously, this was a great year for action cinema, since we had the opportunity to appreciate a true masterpiece of the genre known as John Wick 4. But we also had to endure two deplorable products such as a tenth of Fast and Furious and the second part of Megalodon. In addition to being the worst movies of the year, these two mega productions have something in common: actor Jason Statham. Guess what? Statham is also the protagonist of The Indestructibles 4! The third time is the charm for this British actor, who once came to shine thanks to Guy Ritchie’s films such as Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels y Snatch.
Stallone finally shows some intelligence by appearing at the beginning of the film as Barney Ross, the leader of the team, and then disappearing and leaving others to take responsibility for this disaster. Most of the blame falls on Lee Christmas, Barney’s best friend, who is played by Statham. To hell with the premise of a team made up of action movie legends! The Indestructibles 4 ends up becoming a deplorable new vehicle for Statham’s career to continue into a tailspin.
In any case, there is a team, but it has definitely gone into decline. Dolph Lundgren returns as the sniper Jensen, with an absurd toupee and the implausible resolution that he is going to give up drinking. And Randy Couture, with his bruised ears, returns to action as Toll Road, the funnyman of the group. The new acquisitions include rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (who once participated in Righteous Kill, another “fried egg and rice” alongside Al Pacino and Robert De Niro) as Easy Day, the replacement for Terry Crews; and Jacob Scipio replaces Banderas as Galán, the loudmouth of the group. With these two actors, the Afro and Latino quota is fulfilled.
The indestructibles have finally entered the 21st century and have given women the opportunity to enter this “men’s club”, of course, as long as they are sexy. This brings us to Megan Fox, who plays Gina, Christmas’s girlfriend, a woman as sexy as she is tough to kill; and Levy Tran, who accompanies Fox in the female quota, as Lash, another sexy and lethal woman, supposedly an expert in martial arts. Ah! and Andy Garcia comes and goes as Marsh, the grumpy CIA supervisor complete with toothpick in his mouth.
Jet Li (another who wisely took a step back), is replaced by two legends of Asian action cinema to fulfill the eastern quota. We are talking regarding the Indonesian Iko Uwais, the protagonist of instant action classics The Raid 1 & 2, who plays Rahmat, a ruthless terrorist. And the Thai actor Tony Jaa, star of those gems known as Young Back y The protector, plays Decha, a late ally of the group. It’s a shame that they don’t have the space to display their enormous talent, but that is one of the main problems with all the actors who have participated in this stupid franchise. Not to mention the dialogues that seem taken from paw patrolthe excessive, incoherent and inelegant violence that seems taken from a bad video game and the shoddy special effects that might have been done much better if a YouTube fan group.
The script (if you can call it that) has to do with the evil Rahmat, who has captured some nuclear detonators and, following the instructions of a shadowy supervillain codenamed Ocelot (a traitor within the group), intends to cause a nuclear explosion on Russian territory, making it appear that the United States is responsible, triggering a limited nuclear war that will greatly enrich Ocelot. And only our heroes can stop this from happening. The movies of G.I. Joe They look like works of Fassbinder compared to this film. There is no excuse, since the writers’ strike occurred following The Indestructibles 4 will be completed.
It’s time for our group to stay at their bar reminiscing regarding old times and for Statham to take a step back and seriously think regarding separating from Megan Fox to get back together with Melissa McCarthy and look for a job once more with Guy Ritchie. His Agent Fortune It’s a thousand times better than your Christmas.
