US media are echoing the incredible story of a man from Florida who, following being bitten in the thigh by a relative during a fight, developed a serious infection, commonly known as “flesh-eating bacteria”.
Literally “eaten” from the inside. American newspapers, including the New York Post in particular, tell the incredible story of Donnie Adams.
Originally from Florida, the man was bitten in the left thigh by one of his relatives during a fight.
From that bite, he developed a rare and dangerous condition, necrotizing fasciitis, a devastating bacterial infection that destroys soft tissue also sometimes called “flesh-eating bacteria.”
Transported and operated in emergency
Shortly following the bite, Donnie Adams began to experience severe pain and his condition rapidly deteriorated. He was rushed to hospital where doctors diagnosed him with necrotizing fasciitis. This infection is rare but extremely dangerous.
Doctors immediately performed emergency surgery to remove the infected tissue and clean the affected area. Without this rapid intervention, the infection might have spread to other parts of the body and put Donnie Adams’ life in danger.
Fortunately, thanks to the intensive and prompt medical care given to him, Donnie Adams was able to avoid a leg amputation. He has since been slowly recovering from this traumatic experience, continuing intensive antibiotic treatment punctuated by rigorous care to treat his wounds.
Despite the hardships he has been through, Donnie Adams maintains a positive frame of mind and expressed his gratitude to the medical team who treated him and allowed him to retain the use of his leg. The man is now determined to recover and focus on forgiveness and reconciliation within his family.
