The incredible repatriation of a Belgian victim of an accident in Dubai: a kitty of 150,000 euros made in record time!

A kitty of 150,000 euros was made in less than three days to help Bilal, victim of a serious road accident.

Bilal, a 29-year-old Belgian from Diegem, was the victim of a serious road accident in Dubai on May 26. After encountering administrative problems, the young man, who has multiple fractures, was able to be repatriated on an airliner made available by Emirates. The Belgian embassy was unable to organize the repatriation and donations of up to 150,000 euros were then made in order to pay the hospitalization costs and to organize his repatriation.

It was in 2020 that Bilal received a contract from Tractebel to work in Dubai under a local contract, no longer benefiting from Belgian social protection. His contract, in accordance with the law, was terminated in July 2021. “He received a month’s notice and he wanted to stay in Dubai where he set up his own business. But it turns out that he was not in order in terms of insurance and mutual insurance”explains Aziz, his dad.

Three weeks ago, Bilal was the victim of a serious traffic accident. “He was intubated and has several fractures in the cervical, pelvis, ankle. On Saturday May 28, I went to the hospital in Dubai where I was told that I had to pay a deposit of 40,000 euros because he was in default of insurance. The hospital costs amounted to a total of 150,000 euros. We contacted the Belgian embassy to ask for help but obviously, they are not in able to help us because he left more than two years ago and the procedure provides that he is therefore no longer covered criticizes Aziz. “However, my son worked for seven years in Belgium and paid all his contributions. This situation is unacceptable.”
