“The beginning of two legends.” On his Instagram account, Mounir Nasraou, Lamine Yamal’s father, shared a photo of his son with Lionel Messi. While such a photo might seem almost banal in 2024, the Spanish international was just a baby at the time of the photo. It quickly went viral.
Born in July 2007, Lamine Yamal was trained at Barça, just like Lionel Messi, his idol. The player who will soon celebrate his 17th birthday (on July 13) has several similarities with the world champion: having passed through La Masia, both left-handed and with debuts on the right side.

A photo during a solidarity operation
In the photo, while still a Barça player, Lionel Messi still has his long hair and is leaning towards Lamine Yamal, who is bathing with his mother at his side. It was Lamine Yamal’s father who took the photo during a solidarity operation organized by FC Barcelona.
Having left FC Barcelona in 2021 for PSG, Lionel Messi has never played with Lamine Yamal. Last summer, the “Pulga” joined MLS and Inter Miami. Messi is in early July with the Argentine national team, in the United States, to play in the Copa America.
In recent months, Yamal has revealed himself with Barça, to the point of becoming undisputed for Euro 2024, where he has been selected by Spain. This Friday, La Roja has a quarter-final date with Germany, the host country.
