The inaugural ecuroduct in Wallonia is situated in Soignies.

The project involving the pipeline has been in motion for three years. A nature enthusiast saw a report on a French channel and decided to participate in a competition, launched by the municipality, under the participatory budget scheme.

According to Camille Lebrun from the environment department, Sonegians voted overwhelmingly in favor of Muriel’s project, with the écuroduc coming in second place, behind the dog park that was established in the zoning area. However, the pipeline project faced delays due to Covid, and finding professionals capable of installing the structure, which requires a certain level of expertise to correctly place the ropes, pulleys, and counterweights.

The pipeline project goes back three years already. “I had seen a report, on a French channel“, says our nature enthusiast. “So I participated in a competition, launched by the municipality, as part of the participatory budget”.

Sonegians voted overwhelmingly for Muriel’s project“, continues Camille Lebrun, from the Environment department. “The écuroduc came in second place, behind the dog park that we have set up in the zoning. For the pipeline, it took time. Because of the Covid, first of all, but also because we had to find professionals capable of installing the structure. This requires a certain mastery, to correctly place the ropes, the pulleys, the counterweights…”

In conclusion, the pipeline project in Sonegians has been a long time in the making, but thanks to the efforts of Muriel and the community’s support, it has finally come to fruition. The teamwork and dedication from both individuals and professionals have been crucial in completing this project successfully. The installation requires a certain mastery, but with careful planning and execution, the pipeline has become an innovative and sustainable solution for animal conservation efforts in the region. We hope that this initiative inspires other communities to embrace participatory budgeting and prioritize environmental sustainability.
