A recent study revealed the importance of vitamin D for the body, which is known as the “sunshine vitamin”, which benefits bone health, strengthens muscles, reduces the risk of osteoporosis, and contributes to reducing the incidence of type 1 diabetes, respiratory diseases and other diseases. In the event of its deficiency, it causes very serious health complications, according to what was published by the Daily Mail newspaper.

British researchers explained that a third of Britons of all ages suffer from vitamin D deficiency, due to several factors, including spending a lot of time indoors and not being exposed to the fresh air and sunlight that the body needs, as well as malnutrition, in addition to failure to take nutritional supplements, Noting that the suffering reaches every one out of three people, as young people are the most vulnerable to vitamin D deficiency.

The Center for Health Information and Nutritional Supplements (HSIS) said there are foods that help the body get vitamin D, such as oily fish and eggs, but in high quantities.

In the same context, Dr. Pamela Mason, a member of the research team, said that taking vitamin D is essential to fill the deficiency of this vitamin within the body, and for the purpose of maintaining healthy bones and muscles, especially to help prevent nutritional rickets and osteomalacia.

And she continued: “Vitamin D is essential for calcium absorption and bone health, which is positively related to bone mineral density, as good bone health is essential for enhancing bone mass in adulthood and reducing the risk of osteoporosis later in life.”

The doctor also indicated that very few foods naturally contain vitamin D. Oily fish, such as salmon and mackerel, should be eaten several times a week, along with some cereals.
