The Egyptian Medicines Authority said that antibiotics do not treat viral diseases and that their use must be under complete medical supervision.
The Medicines Authority added that using antibiotics without the need for them makes bacteria more powerful and ferocious, and increases the bacteria’s resistance to antibiotics. It continued: In the event of infection with influenza and obtaining an antibiotic, taking it will be useless.
She continued: Antibiotics are medications used to eliminate bacteria, or stop their growth, and antibiotics are used to treat infections resulting from bacterial infection only.
It is not used to treat infections resulting from viruses, such as: most sore throats, coughs, colds, influenza, or acute sinusitis.
