The risks of driving following taking certain medications are often poorly perceived by motorists. A road safety campaign notably reminds us of the importance of the three pictograms which should alert us.
This is a risk often poorly understood by motorists: driving following taking medication can represent a certain danger depending on the substances ingested.
To raise awareness on this issue, road safety launched a campaign in the form of interviews, from October 30 to November 29 on several radio stations: Nostalgie, Radio Classique, RFM, RTL, as well as on the France network radio stations. Blue.
At the same time, “100,000 doctors will receive a memo detailing all the pathologies that might have an impact on driving, and the procedure to follow for each situation”, notes a press release from the Ministry of the Interior.
Pictograms at 3 levels
Three pictograms appear on the packets of medicines concerned and quickly give instructions on how to follow. They are classified into three levels:
Level 1, with a yellow pictogram, calls for caution and not to drive without having read the instructions, which will alert you to potential effects. Level 2, with an orange pictogram, indicates that taking the medication may jeopardize your ability to drive. It is necessary to seek the advice of your doctor or pharmacist before getting behind the wheel. Level 3, with the red pictogram, indicates that driving is dangerous. . Before you start driving once more, seek the advice of your doctor. If it is a medication without a medical prescription, ask your pharmacist for advice.
Appearing in 2007, these pictograms have not significantly reduced the number of accidents, as expected, noted a study in 2016, highlighting the important role of health professionals in raising public awareness.
