The independence of Justice cannot imply irresponsibility with regard to security issues, declared Sunday the president of the MR Georges-Louis Bouchez, closing the programmatic congress of his formation in which a thousand activists took part.
“Concerning Justice, independence does not mean irresponsibility. An investigation must be carried out to determine responsibilities; we cannot accept that an extradition file is not processed for more than a year. The security issues are too important,” he said.
The president of the French-speaking liberals was speaking in the context of the attack in Brussels, the author of which was the subject of an extradition request lost sight of by the prosecution since September last year.
During the congress, former Prime Minister Sophie Wilmès underlined, in this context, that security, the fight once morest terrorism and radicalism were in the DNA of the liberal party. “We will defend our values without concession. We are the only ones with a clear, firm and realistic line,” she claimed.
Concerning another dramatic recent event, namely the worsening of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Georges-Louis Bouchez was keen to recall Belgium’s commitment to a two-state solution, with mutual recognition.

In view of next year’s electoral deadlines, he stressed that the world, the country and its Regions were “at the crossroads between the harmful solutions of extremists and the fifty shades of the left pushing towards angelism. We need a just society, where work pays, politicians speak the truth and politicians are responsible,” he said.
Considering that the budgetary situation of French-speaking entities is “dramatic”, Georges-Louis Bouchez judged that it was “high time to rediscover the sense of politics and to dare to say no to the waste of public money”

For him, the reform “of all those things that we consider impossible to reform” is an obligation, even if it means not pleasing “to allow the confidence of the middle classes in a better future”.
