THE viral PHENOMENON can no longer be separated from our lives in this increasingly sophisticated digital era. Viral content can spread very quickly through social media or other digital platforms.

Unfortunately, many viral contents circulate in society without any control over the truth and negative impacts on society. It can be said that the problem actually arises from viral contents whose truth cannot be accounted for. Moreover, so far negative information has more easily stolen the public’s attention.

In order to overcome the phenomenon of viral content that is actually disturbing, the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) held a Digital Literacy Chat Obral (OOTD) webinar entitled “If It Goes Viral, Everyone Gets Annoyed” on Friday (28/6).

From the online seminar, it was explained that ethics in living in the digital world are a very important basis for creating a healthy and comfortable digital world. Not only domestically, the impact of viral content can also spread very quickly to all corners of the world.

“Actually, the term viral has been around for a long time before digitalization, but with today’s digital developments, something that goes viral must receive special attention because it spreads very quickly and spreads throughout the world,” said Soni Mongan, a Digital Literacy Activist who was also a speaker in the OOTD “Asal Viral, Semua Jadi Kesang”.

What also needs to be noted is that the problems caused by content in the digital world are difficult to erase. This digital footprint can be public consumption across generations.

“What is currently a concern is that our digital footprint is more negative than positive. And this will affect our daily lives,” explained Astari Yuniarti, Chief Editor.

It is known that the latest example of the negative impact of viral content in the social world recently was a security officer at a shopping center in Jakarta, hitting a dog that bit a kitten. Because of a misperception and it went viral, the officer had to accept psychological pressure because he was cursed by netizens, even worse, he also lost his job. (Z-6)
