ORAN – The Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun underlined, Tuesday in Oran, the importance of creating a subcontracting network in the field of the automobile industry, able to respond to international norms and standards.
Speaking at the opening of a meeting organized by the Stellantis group, which brought together 90 Algerian and foreign operators, with the aim of establishing subcontracting partnerships for the manufacturing of automobile parts and components, Mr. Aoun noted that this approach aims to guarantee the launch of an automobile industry based on local integration, through the creation of a subcontracting network capable of meeting international norms and standards in terms of quality and safety.
This meeting, which brought together 90 operators from 7 countries, namely Algeria, Turkey, France, Italy, Tunisia, Portugal and China, aims to present the Stellantis group’s strategy in terms of purchasing and supply of automotive parts and components.
The Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production explained that his ministry aims “to build winning partnerships in different areas of subcontracting, either locally or in joint ventures to satisfy national or export demand.”
“This event should constitute the basis of lasting and fruitful cooperation and a platform for exchange, partnership and assistance, which will culminate in the contractualization of relations between Stellantis and the suppliers present here,” he said. he adds.
He also highlighted the will of the Ministry of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production and its commitment to building a solid foundation for the development of the automotive industry by joining forces with partners with extensive experience in this area.
“This approach also aims to constitute a base of subcontracting SMEs in order to ensure local integration by valorizing raw materials and stimulating technological, scientific progress and innovation,” he noted.
He also estimated that the ecosystem is now favorable for attracting national and foreign investments in the automobile industry, highlighting the advantages offered by the law on the promotion of investment.
The Middle East and Africa operations manager of the Stellantis group, Samir Cherfan, stressed for his part that the Fiat Algeria project is a first integrated automotive ecosystem in Algeria, which subcontractors can join.
The Italian Ambassador to Algeria, Alberto Cutillo, stressed that the Italian government is following the Fiat Algeria project with “a lot of attention”, adding that Italy is ready to continue supporting Algeria in the establishment of the automobile industry, through a win-win partnership which characterizes bilateral relations between the two countries.
