Giallanza: “Situations like the one in the Dzemaili interview are unnecessary and a shame”

Media work in the emotional football business is becoming increasingly important. In the football talk Heimspiel, Stefan Eggli discusses everything that communication involves with Gaetano Giallanza, Felix Bingesser and Fredy Bickel.

Blerim Dzemaili complained about the referee in a break during the game between FC St.Gallen and FCZ. The veteran was irritated by the lack of a foul whistle. He subsequently received a game suspension for the frustration interview.

For Gaetano Giallanza, things like this cannot be prevented despite media training in the clubs. “Such situations are unnecessary and a pity,” says the former professional, who now works as a player consultant.

Felix Bingesser, who worked for a long time as sports editor-in-chief at Blick, enjoys the exuberant emotions more. Such interviews will still be talked about in two or three weeks, while many irrelevant statements are already forgotten the next day, he notes. “The Dzemaili interview is authentic, honest and emotional,” emphasizes the journalist. “Such highly emotional interviews are allowed to happen from time to time – I think that’s cool,” sums up Bingesser.

Media are coming to a head – for better or for worse

FCB coach Heiko Vogel also freaked out in an interview last Sunday after the bankruptcy against Lucerne. Bingesser’s comment: “All media are increasingly being painted in black and white, nobody wants gray tones anymore”. But not everything about the “tabloidization” in recent decades is bad. On the other hand, Vogel also enjoys being praised, says Bingesser.

blue Sport expert Fredy Bickel doesn’t think it’s good that Vogel wasn’t taken aside before the interview to warn him. It was clear what questions would come after the Lucerne defeat. “You can feel that as an official,” he complains and locates a lack of protection from the FCB communications department.

In the Super League, the final phase is running. “Now you notice the tension, it takes a lot of strength to keep yourself under control,” says Bickel. “The interviews just show me that the league is alive,” says Bingesser. “Every day of the game is like a final. It’s just a cool phase, including the emotions that play into it.”

The problem with Balotelli

Mario Balotelli recently gave an intimate insight into his inner life in a podcast in Italy. In Switzerland, he only attends the official media conferences. From a marketing point of view, he brought a lot to the league, according to Bingesser. You know him everywhere, all over Europe.

His qualities as a player are undisputed, but he is simply not really fit at the moment, emphasizes Giallanza. “If you’re not fit today and haven’t done the right preparation, you don’t have a chance,” said the 48-year-old. Without fitness, even a Ronaldo or Messi can no longer keep up. “Super-Mario” himself also commented on the two exceptional athletes in the podcast.
