Russian Foreign Minister says the creation of a Palestinian state is essential to avoid ‘relapses of violence’
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov pushed for the creation of a Palestinian state while speaking regarding the situation in Gaza during his annual press conference on Thursday.
“The main direction of efforts must be the creation of a Palestinian State that fully complies with the decisions of the Security Council, a State that, as written in these decisions, exists in security and good neighborliness alongside Israel with other countries of the region. ”Lavrov highlighted.
“Without this, whatever happens, we will see relapses of the violence now seen in Gaza, because without the creation of a Palestinian state, the Palestinian people will continue to feel disadvantaged, they will continue to live in conditions of inferior justice.” Lavrov argued, urging the need to “put an end to it.”
Lavrov said he “hopes that the Israeli state will eventually come to this conclusion,” but also said he understood that was “unacceptable to Israel at this time.”
“We can’t do anything but explain it to them,” Lavrov said.
Lavrov then urged that US mediation efforts will not work unless there is “direct dialogue between Palestinians and Israelis.”
“Suppose, so to speak, the ‘grown men’ will agree somewhere on how the Palestinians will continue to live and then present it to you. It won’t be a success. It is only necessary to restore direct dialogue,” Lavrov stressed.
