Article 97 of Resolution 5261 of 1994, which establishes the Manual of Activities, Interventions and Procedures of the Compulsory Health Plan in the General System of Social Security in Health, established the term of duration of the general medicine consultation, which It cannot be less than 20 minutes.
Therefore, indicated the Ministry of Health, the standard provides for the minimum consultation time without having determined a maximum time for it, which depends on the requirements of each patient and the autonomy of the health professional, who finally determines the time required with the patient to make the corresponding diagnosis.
Regarding the autonomy of health professionals, Article 17 of Law 1751 of 2015 indicates that the autonomy of health professionals is guaranteed to make decisions regarding the diagnosis and treatment of the patients under their care. This autonomy will be exercised within the framework of self-regulation schemes, ethics, rationality and scientific evidence.
The norm also indicates that any constraint, pressure or restriction of professional practice that threatens the autonomy of health professionals is prohibited, as well as any abuse in professional practice that threatens patient safety.
