The Knesset Finance Committee met with Israeli reserve soldiers to discuss the repercussions of the ongoing war in Gaza, which caused a severe blow to the Israeli economy.

Reserve soldier Lior Moshayev, who until a few days ago was fighting in the Shujaiya neighborhood in the northern Gaza Strip, says that his company collapsed.

Mochayev, who spoke to lawmakers emotionally, continued: “My situation is catastrophic. Every day I go out, I don’t know how I will end my day. I am afraid to use my credit card to buy baby formula for my daughter.”

The soldier added to the Knesset Committee: “I did not receive a shekel. The refrigerator is empty. I did not receive any grant. I risk my life every day. Bullets pass over my head. I risk my life to protect you and everyone.”

He continued, addressing the deputies: “Is there anyone here whose refrigerator is empty? Has any of you not received a salary?”

The Israeli soldier continued: “We did not think twice. We left everything on the first day (October 7). We left our families and our jobs and went. I went to Gaza and my brother went to the north,” which lives under the influence of daily tensions and the exchange of shells and missiles with the Lebanese Hezbollah.

When a representative of the tax authority asked him why he had not filed a claim for compensation, Moshayev indicated to the committee that he was “not allowed to take a mobile phone to Gaza.”

The Israeli army summoned more than 300,000 reserve soldiers, following the sudden Hamas attacks on October 7.

According to The Times of Israel, Israeli officials admit that although many reserve soldiers received government aid, many of them fell into severe financial crises.

In addition, the wives and husbands of many reservists began organizing an aid campaign, with the aim of preventing the collapse of their partners’ businesses.
