A study conducted by researchers from the universities of Pennsylvania, South Florida, Pittsburgh, and Arizona revealed that sleep patterns can determine some health problems that a person may be exposed to in the long term.

The study was based on data from 3,700 middle-aged people, from whom data was collected on sleep habits and health conditions over a period of 10 years.

The researchers divided sleep habits into 4 main patterns, according to the Health Day website.

First style:

People who sleep well in terms of number of hours and quality of sleep, regularly throughout the week.

Second style:

Who sleep well during weekends and holidays only.

Third style:

People who suffer from insomnia, difficulty sleeping, and feel tired during the day.

Fourth style:

Nappers, on the whole, sleep well.

Data analysis showed that those who suffer from insomnia have an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, and depression by between 72% and 188%.

While the napping group had an increased risk of diabetes, cancer and osteoporosis.

The researchers did not find a link between the pattern of sleep compensation during the weekends and chronic diseases.

The results indicated that there is an increasing need to identify the influences that hinder obtaining deep and good sleep, such as looking at screens during the late hours of the evening, as well as consuming caffeine late in the day.

The research indicated that good sleep habits have multiple effects, from building good social relationships, to improving physical performance, to improving overall health and reducing the effects of aging.
