The Minister of Health and Population indicated today, during the activities of the press conference to announce the preparations for the World Conference on Population, Health and Development, from 5 to 8 September, that the population increase devours the fruits of development and affects the efforts of the state and the per capita share of natural resources.

The Minister of Health and Population added that Egypt ranks 14th in the world in terms of the growing population, with a population of 105 million people, while the world population will reach 8.5 billion in 2030.

The Minister of Health and Population stated that the annual birth rate declined to 2.1 million children, while the fertility rate per woman decreased from 3.5 children to 2.8 children, which means pushing towards reducing population growth rates.

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said that the expected large population increase will be in 8 countries, including Egypt, pointing out that the state seeks to improve the quality of life of citizens while improving demographic characteristics, redrawing and distributing the population, and achieving social justice and community peace.
