Everywhere around him, the Chief Rabbi of France, Haïm Korsia, sees the clinical signs of post-traumatic stress manifesting themselves in those close to him. People are calling him, very agitated, unable to sleep, upset by the ocean of barbaric videos surging on social networks that they have been confronted with since the start of the Hamas attack on Israel. “They are affected by a violent disorder, their bodies shield these unthinkable events, he gets excited. It’s one thing to know someone is dead, it’s another to see images of their charred body on Twitter [renommé X]. »

He protects himself from images – “I haven’t seen the worst” – and tries to dissuade those around him from looking at them. “But it’s hard to keep the kids away from that.”, he notes. Because to the intrinsic violence of the massacres of the weekend of October 7 and 8 is added the massive volume of videos documenting it. “We have never seen a terrorist attack with so many images availableassures Philippe Corbé, the editorial director of BFM-TV. Thousands of little filmed moments come to us in every direction. »

Corpses of elderly people lying in front of a bus stop or young women shot dead in their car, bloody cradles, charred bodies of children, videos of the wounded shot at close range, parents carrying dead infants in their arms at middle of bombed landscapes: all these scenes flow unfiltered onto the Internet.

Indiscriminate brutality and clinical documentary

Palestinian Hamas manufactures them on purpose, as one more weapon in its panoply of terror, to the point of having included among its commandos men responsible for showing the killings. Or use their victim’s Facebook account to broadcast their execution live. On the Israeli side, the images are collected and shared en masse as so many testimonies of the blind brutality which has befallen the country.

An Israeli Telegram channel publishes around twenty videos every day, taken at the scene of the atrocities. There is a documentary side as clinical as the content is staggering: the date, time and a descriptive summary are provided below each of them. “Unfortunately a terrorist commando managed to enter the barracks of several Thai farm workers and massacred them. In this video, we can see images of these barracks”, we can, for example, read there. Or “A group of Hamas terrorists attacks an Israeli civilian next to a bomb shelter next to the Nova festival. After finishing off their first victim, the terrorists realize that people are hiding in the shelter, into which they throw a grenade before shooting those who try to escape. » In another post, the creators of the channel hope that in this way “the world can see the true horrors that are taking place here”.
