The head of the IIHF refused to call the removal of Russia a political decision

The removal of the national teams of Russia and Belarus is not a political decision, said IIHF President Luc Tardif at the congress of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) in Tampere, Finland.
“All decisions taken by the IIHF Council are aimed at protecting the competitions and the delegates of Russia, Belarus. These decisions are not political. We will not allow discussions to turn into political debates. We will talk regarding competitions, sports, I want to assure you that we do not accept any political pressure, ”quotes TASS Tardifa.
In February last year, the IIHF suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in competitions under its auspices due to events in Ukraine. In addition, Russia lost the right to host the 2023 World Cup and the World Youth Championship.
Last March, the suspension was extended for the 2023/24 season.
