The II International Congress of Animal Health and Welfare: Advancing Veterinary Practices for Animal Welfare and Public Health

The city of Córdoba will host, on September 21, 22 and 23, the II International Congress of Animal Health and Welfare promoted by the Veterinary College Organization (OCV), with the presence of some of the most solvent specialists in both fields, very united with public health, in the daily practice of the veterinary profession and subject to constant scientific-technical progress.

Within the framework of the Rectorate of the University of Córdoba, a program will be developed focused on three highly topical lines: Animal Welfare and Livestock Health; Public Health and Animal Welfare, and Animal Protection Law, which will come into effect at the end of the month. Thus, there will be eight 45-minute sessions and four round tables, distributed in the different sessions, with prestigious speakers. The presence of some is planned 150 veterinarians and 29 communications will be announced.

As explained today Rufino Riverogeneral secretary of the OCV, in the presentation of the program, which took place at the College of Veterinarians of Córdoba, the entity is carrying out a firm commitment to the training of professionals“not only through our digital platform Campus Colvet with courses and seminars that more than 12,000 veterinarians used last year, but also through conferences like this one, essential for updating knowledge and exchanging experiences”.

IMPORTANCE OF PREVENTION


Prevention is essential in the daily work of veterinarians to take care of the health of animals, “since livestock that is not healthy has deaths, production losses, economic losses and limitations in going to the markets. animal health It is the basis of all livestock activityfood security and public health, and of course it is part of well-being,” he stated.

Rivero has also made reference to the legal changes on animal protection, since the Mortgage Law and the Civil Code consider them “sentient beings” and not things, without forgetting the interest of consumers in knowing the living conditions on farms and of slaughter in slaughterhouses, “since society no longer just buys meat, milk or eggs without further ado.”

For its part, Antonio Arenasvice-rector of Training, Employability and Entrepreneurship of the University of Córdoba, indicated that there is a growing sensitivity regarding animal welfare, “so it is of capital importance to update the knowledge of veterinarians in this area with rigor.”

The president of the College of Veterinarians of Córdoba, José María de Torres, welcomed those present and highlighted the professional and social interest of the event. He also attended the event José Ramón Caballeropresident of the College of Veterinarians of Ciudad Real and of the scientific committee of the Congress, who stressed the effort involved in giving continuity to this type of meetings, “which must be complete in their contents and attractive for the sector, and the veterinary tradition of Córdoba”.
