On the first test drive, the new electric VW meets the demands of a luxury class.
At the market launch, the ID.7 will hit the streets with rear-wheel drive and, thanks to a new engine, deliver 286 hp. In the age of electric cars, this performance is not a powerful value, but it is enough for befitting propulsion and safe overtaking manoeuvres.
The driving behavior in corners is more impressive than the acceleration from 0 to 100 in around seven seconds, because thanks to rear-wheel drive and a low center of gravity, the sedan is confident in tight and long corners. Nevertheless, the almost five meter long ID.7 is trimmed for comfortable cruising and calmly dampens major road damage with its adaptive chassis.
The efficiency of the new flagship from VW is particularly worth mentioning, because the 86 kWh battery, which will be available later, should break the 700-kilometer mark for the first time. In addition to the optimized efficiency of the drive train, the long-distance range results from the aerodynamic design of the ID.7, because with a cwvalue of 0.23, the sedan offers little surface for the wind to attack. Despite the streamlined silhouette, the car made in Germany impresses with ample space in both rows of seats and offers a lot of comfort, which can be further increased with options such as seat cooling and massage functions.
The ID.7 has made a big leap in terms of technology, because in addition to an impressive charging capacity of 200 kW, work has mainly been done on the cockpit. In the new sedan, VW directs the driver’s eyes to the road, because the newly developed head-up display provides all relevant data and integrates 3D directions. The infotainment system, which has often been criticized in the past, has also been significantly improved in terms of usability and layout and now includes the intelligent voice assistant IDA.
