Chantale Vigneault, owner of her financial services and personal insurance firm for 20 years now in Saint-Ferdinand and affiliated with the Cloutier Group, is the president and co-founder of the J’assure ma cause program, an initiative that has been brewing in her head for almost four years. Financial security advisor for Ms. Vigneault’s office for two years now, Kelly-Ann Turcotte accompanied her in this project as co-founder of the project.
The two businesswomen chose the Resto-Bar le William to present the details of their program and to carry out its official launch, in the presence of members of their families, friends and business people from the community. .
This is a revolution in the field of philanthropy which offers donors the opportunity to take out life insurance for the benefit of the cause dear to them. Through a simple and quick process, the donor takes out life insurance and designates the organization of their choice, registered in the program, as holder and beneficiary. Upon his death, the capital is paid to the charitable cause and the organization in question receives a sum whose value exceeds that of a simple monetary donation.
“Making a planned gift through life insurance is a concrete gesture to leave a lasting legacy that can increase in value over time, unlike a conventional monetary gift. SON INSPIRATION
Chantale Vigneault says she was inspired by the story of the family of Ariane Pinette de Plessisville, who suffers from a very rare and degenerative genetic disease, who had to repeatedly appeal for support from registered charities. “I have had the chance to participate in various fundraising events or benefit dinners that make a difference for families in need. However, I told myself that this financial support was unfortunately not recurring for families and that we had to go further. »
“When Chantal (Boisvert), Ariane’s mother, wrote on her Facebook page, in 2018, that she needed someone to look following her son while she had to hospitalize Ariane or that she needed small cooked dishes, it came to get me. I called her to tell her that I wouldn’t babysit or cook, but that I would bring her gas coupons. This was the trigger for the implementation of our project. »
“I’m making my case, that’s exactly what it is,” says Ms. Vigneault. “We are ensuring our cause so that organizations have enough money to help families like that of Ariane Pinette and others and so that they can honor their mission. Our vision is to create a new reflex among donors that we can give differently with planned life insurance donations. »
Ms. Boisvert (Ariane’s mother) was also on hand to share her story. She obviously emphasized that her family is just one example among many that foundations have their reason for being. HOW TO SIMPLIFY THE DONATION OF LIFE INSURANCE TO SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY
The donor takes out life insurance adapted to his budget and his needs, designating the organization of his choice as holder and beneficiary. Each year (over a maximum period of ten years) or by single lump sum donation, the donor pays the premium(s) provided for in their insurance contract and benefits from the associated tax credits. When the donor dies, the capital of his life insurance is paid directly to the beneficiary organization, tax-free.
When a new donor is approved, J’assure ma cause automatically provides a donation of $125 to the beneficiary organization. Once a quarter, registered charities that have acquired new donors receive a payment reflecting their accumulated donations. And, when a donor dies, the insurer pays the capital of the life insurance to the beneficiary organization. The amount, varying from $5,000 to $250,000 for products without a medical examination, depends on the insurance contract and the time of death.
For example, life insurance of $10,000 for a 45-year-old man, non-smoker and healthy, might cost $624 per year (maximum of 10 years), but the amount of the net donation would amount to $333 per year in due to a tax credit of $291. In addition, I assure my cause gives $125 to the selected organization which will benefit from the life insurance at the time of the death of the insured. “The important thing is to go with your heart and your budget,” said Ms. Vigneault.
FIRST DONOR
Jimmy Vigneault is the program’s first donor. The local businessman was immediately interested in the project when his cousin (Chantale Vigneault) spoke to him regarding it for the first time in 2019. “I am often called upon to participate in fundraising, but I insuring my cause is an excellent financial lever that can make a difference for the community. For me, it is more than a financial vehicle, it is a commitment to bequeath a better future to the generation that succeeds us,” he said.
