The Hyundai Sonata destined to disappear | Automotive News

The car, we know, is dying. The remaining models on the market are increasingly rare and if at the beginning, we saw less popular models fall in battle, it is now the tenors of yesterday who are bowing out.

One of the next to disappear would be the Hyundai Sonata. At least that’s the opinion of the Korean Car Blog site. The latter has become aware of a story reported by the South Korean newspaper Chosum Ilbo which claims that there will be no ninth generation model for the Sonata. Citing well-informed sources, the newspaper mentions that it is an open secret inside the company that the Sonata will disappear.

The Korean Car Blog also mentions that a senior Hyundai official has confirmed that no development is taking place on the next generation. Same story on the supplier side.

If the model had been renewed, it would have made its debut around 2025. If all is confirmed, it is an icon of the company that we will see disappear, because the Sonta sedan made its debut in 1985 (the Stellar with us).

Obviously, the reason behind the vehicle’s withdrawal has to do with the model’s declining popularity, as people prefer SUVs. But there is also this very controversial style that is not unanimous, even among senior management. Also, the electric shift undertaken by the company will give birth to new products that will adopt new styles, new formats, new names.

An aesthetic upgrade will not be excluded to give the model a little boost for its last years on the market.

All this will be confirmed, of course. We will follow this case closely.

And let’s not rule out, one day, the return of the name in some form with an electrical product. The latter was still successful and has a good resonance with the public.
