On the followingnoon of the 26th, a gust of wind blew on Xiaohaituo Mountain. In front of the doping test station at the end of the alpine ski race, staff are reinforcing the newly built barrier-free passage with wooden boards. At the end of the track not far away, a boardwalk paved on snow has been completed, and there is a layer of anti-skid pads on it, which is very stable to walk on.
“These are all designed to allow unhindered movement of athletes during the competition. In fact, from the moment athletes arrive at the Paralympic Village, we want to create an environment for them to move smoothly in any situation. ” said Liu Jie, Paralympic Integration Manager of the National Alpine Ski Center Venue Operation Team, “This involves an important concept of our competition—humanization. We hope that we will try our best not to use external forces such as lifts to help disabled athletes move, but to work hard. Creating an inclusive environment that allows them to travel on their own merits is an expression of equality and respect.”

In the dining area of the athlete’s lounge, there is a beverage cabinet. Different from the usual way of placing the same beverage in a row, this beverage cabinet has a variety of different beverages on each floor. At first glance, it seems that It’s a bit messy, but if you think regarding it, you can understand its intentions. Liu Jie explained: “In this way, including people in wheelchairs, everyone can get the drinks they want at a position suitable for their height.”

There are many similar humanized designs. According to Liu Jie, the National Alpine Ski Center adhered to the simultaneous planning and construction of the two Olympic Games at the beginning of its planning and construction. A total of 11 permanent and temporary barrier-free ramps, 23 barrier-free elevators, and 33 barrier-free toilets were set up. During the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games, they will provide special facilities for athletes in sitting positions. A 980-meter-long drag will be set up on the racing track, and a magic carpet with a length of 115 meters and a net width of 1.2 meters will be set up at the end of the competition to facilitate the sitting posture. Athletes move in connection between the lounge, the track and the training track.
“In addition, a series of conversion work, such as changing the snow on the track, changing the landscape signs, and adding barrier-free vehicles, are all underway in an orderly manner.” Liu Jie said, “We are confident that the preparations will be completed before the official competition starts. Paralympic athletes in various countries (regions) provide the strongest guarantee and the most attentive service.”

She said: “The barrier-free facilities here are very good. I took the cable car all the way from the Winter Paralympic Village to the top of the mountain. The seat of the cable car has a heating function, which is very comfortable. It can be in such a good venue and service conditions in my country. The game, I feel very lucky, and it also inspired me to fight hard.”
