Apart from the free nutritious food program, building 3 million houses per year is one of the main priorities of the Prabowo Subianto – Gibran government. This program was designed by president-elect Prabowo Subianto for clear reasons.

Chairman of the President-Elect’s Housing Task Force (Satgas) Hashim S. Djojohadikusumo explained that for a long time Prabowo had often mentioned the issue of children’s growth or stuntingas well as the importance of improving community welfare.

“He always emphasizes the importance of children regularly consuming fish, milk and other nutritious foods. He is concerned about the condition of the nation, especially children who are 10 years old but are as small as 5 year olds. That is why the free nutritious food program was launched ,” said Hashim at the event Propertinomic Executive Dialogue which discussed the success of the program to build 3 million houses per year, Thursday (10/10).

Hashim added that the problem of stunting is not only about poor nutrition, but also the living environment which affects children’s growth. Therefore, a comprehensive approach is needed to overcome stunting, including ensuring that Indonesian children and families live in livable houses with a healthy housing environment.

Based on the importance of housing in reducing stunting rates and eradicating poverty, the new government is committed to reviving the Ministry of Housing to realize the program to build 3 million houses. In detail, 2 million houses will be built in rural areas and 1 million houses in urban areas every year.

“I want to emphasize that 3 million houses is an annual target. In one leadership period (5 years) there will be 15 million houses built throughout Indonesia. If Prabowo Subianto is given the opportunity for two periods, then in 10 years 30 million houses will be built. “This program will be continued by the next president,” explained Hashim.

3 million homes

According to Hashim, this target is very possible to achieve. The Indonesian nation must be serious and ambitious by setting a high target of building 3 million houses per year.

“As the General Chair of REI said earlier, we cannot change the situation if we continue to apply the old methods,” he added.

Hashim also said that the property and housing sector is linked to 185 other industries, so that it can improve the business world and the national economy. This is in line with the Prabowo-Gibran government’s target to achieve economic growth of 8% per year.

Indonesia, said Hashim, could learn from China, which for 35 years made the property sector the backbone of the economy, which helped the country get out of poverty.

The construction of 2 million houses in rural areas will be managed by MSMEs, cooperatives, BUMDes and village contractors by involving local communities, which will create employment opportunities and increase national income. Meanwhile, 1 million apartments in urban areas will be open to the private sector, including REI members in various regions.

“Private developers who are REI members are welcome to participate. Land belonging to the central and regional governments can be used for apartment construction, such as land in the PD Pasar Jaya markets in DKI Jakarta,” he added.

Regarding the question about the candidate for Minister of Housing that Prabowo will choose, Hashim said that this figure must have a deep understanding of housing and be close to all related ecosystems, including business actors. However, he was reluctant to name names before October 20.

Big Leap for the Housing Industry

The General Chair of the REI DPP, Joko Suranto, welcomed the 3 million houses per year program, calling it a big leap for the national housing industry. According to him, there will be no significant changes if the old methods are still applied.

Joko also highlighted that Indonesia is facing a housing backlog (shortage of supply) of 12.7 million units. This figure has not changed significantly over the last 10 years. Therefore, providing massive housing is the key to overcoming this backlog the.

“We at REI fully support this noble program,” stressed Joko.

Joko added that the property sector makes a large contribution to national GDP, amounting to 14%, contributing around 9% to the APBN, and contributing between 35% – 55% to local original income (PAD). This sector is also capable of absorbing a workforce of up to 17 million people.

As a labor-intensive sector, the property industry is able to absorb a large workforce, between 13 million and 19 million people. With this strategic contribution, the property sector deserves to be the main backbone of national economic growth.

“Including to support the economic growth target of 8% per year towards a Golden Indonesia 2045,” he concluded. (Z-10)
