The decision was made during the session of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization “ICAO” at their headquarters in Montreal, Canada, with the unanimous support from all member states of the Council.

According to His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al-Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, hosting the conference on aviation and alternative fuels is in line with the UAE’s declaration of 2023 as the year of sustainability. This initiative enhances the country’s position as a leader in climate change action in the aviation sector at the regional level and the fuel sector at the global level.

His Excellency Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, highlights the UAE’s proven track record in environmental action and regional and international cooperation to address the challenges of climate change. Al Suwaidi believes that the country’s recent announcement of the climate neutrality decision for the national aviation sector makes it an ideal destination for holding the conference. He points out that the conference coincides with the country’s preparations to host the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).
