Twenty-seven Walloon horticulturists and nurseries opened their doors this Sunday for Hortidécouvertes day. A return following 4 years of absence and the opportunity for the public to receive advice for the success of their various plantations. In Bellevaux, on the heights of Malmedy, Frédéric Gabriel’s nursery was full of visitors.

Receive advice or choose their new plantations, the motivations of the public were varied: ” The goal is really to show our profession, to explain to beginners how to do it at the garden level, how to take cuttings, how to sow. A lot of people need advice and even more and more because now, unlike a few years ago, everyone wants to garden, everyone wants to have their own little vegetable garden, even on their terrace, and without advice we can’t do it “, specifies Frédéric Gabriel.

Hence the interest of these days. Rosalie, Laurent and Sophie were not mistaken: ” I have a nice wheelbarrow waiting for me, with shrubs, perennials, to redo some flowers for the beginning of summer. I do too much by the way: I’m already preparing myself psychologically for next month when it will be the planters to prepare “, smiles Rosalie. ” We’re just getting started. We let ourselves be guided a little. We look at everything there is and we choose on our favorites “, explains Laurent. ” There, I have a beautiful white shrub that will be regarding 70 cm. We always need advice when we plant “, adds Sophie.

Nearly 71 pc of Walloons bought at least one plant or flower in 2022. 18,540 pieces were sold last year. This represents nearly 114 million euros in turnover. A figure up by more than 11 pc compared to the previous year.
