Before then, the family went away for three weeks together in a rented motorhome. Something Jacob Fischer Friis has often wanted to do, but which he has now, at the age of 47, tried for the first time. And it was great to have a holiday that way, instead of packing your suitcase and traveling somewhere where you are stationary until you go home again, he says.
Three words about my summer
- We have asked a number of North Jutland residents about three words or things that characterize their summer. Today with Jacob Fisher Friis, who has chosen football, family time and motorhome.
- Jacob Fischer Friis is a former soccer player, trained teacher and coach, formerly in AaB and Viborg.
- In 2023 he moved to the Bundesliga club FC Augsburg in Bavaria, where he now lives with his wife Merle and their three children, Arthur, Luna and Melua aged five, eight and 10.
Traveling like a snail with the house on your back gives you great flexibility, he believes.
– The family can enjoy themselves in the car, while I – for the most part – am the one driving. In addition, you don’t have to unpack and unpack again several times on the trip, and when you have everything at hand, it’s easy to take breaks when it suits.
– And suddenly you come home and have much more space! It’s a charm to be so close together in the motorhome, but a short drive is, on the other hand, more difficult, muses Jacob Fischer Friis.
– In Bavaria, the children only get a holiday in August, when football has started again. That’s why we took them out of school only in the summer and spent the three weeks together, driving around Croatia, Slovenia and Italy.
– We have the advantage that we only live four to five hours’ drive from Lake Garda.
When the three children get school holidays in August, the rest of the family goes to Denmark, while father has to stay and take care of the coaching job in Augsburg.
– There is nothing like a Danish summer, he sighs. Who, however, enjoy the good weather in southern Germany.
