So that you don’t have to worry regarding technical problems when you leave, racer Rokas Baciuška shares tips on how to properly prepare your car.
“The fact that spring and summer are the time for traveling by car is also shown by the growing interest in Casco. This type of insurance protects travelers from additional worries, especially in the event of an unforeseen accident,” says Tomas Lizūnas, product manager of transport insurance at insurance technology company Balcia Insurance SE.

According to him, following purchasing Casco insurance, the insurance company will take care of your car and compensate for the damage caused in case of emergency situations. With this type of insurance, hotel, car transportation and taxi expenses are also compensated, as well as damage in case of theft of items from the car.
However, according to T. Lizūnas, before preparing for a longer journey and in order to avoid unpleasant incidents, it is recommended to visit a car service, where the masters will be able to objectively assess the car’s technical condition and perform a more detailed inspection.
Check the tires before the trip
The well-known racer R. Baciuška recommends paying attention to one very important thing before the trip – car tires.
“If you plan to travel on European highways, you should check the speed index of the car’s tires, or the maximum speed that can be driven with the tires you already have. Driving at a higher speed than indicated on the tires may cause them to lose grip and the car may begin to “float”. This, in turn, can cause an emergency situation, and every traveler wants to avoid this,” says R. Baciuška.
Of course, he said, it’s important to have a spare tire when traveling by car. However, if you don’t have it, it’s a good idea to put some tire repair foam in the trunk to fill a flat tire.
What to remember to put in the trunk?
According to the racer, in order to be able to solve simple technical problems on the road yourself, it is recommended to take with you at least a liter of engine oil, to have a suitable coolant for the car, as well as the most important tools: a screwdriver and pliers.
“Be sure to check that the car is equipped with a tow rope, jump starter, first aid kit, emergency triangle, as well as a reflective vest. In Europe, in case of a traffic accident or a car breakdown, it is forbidden to walk outside the car without it,” the athlete shares his advice.
R. Baciuška notes that it is important to check the car’s technical fluids before the trip: cooling, brake, windshield cleaning fluids, engine oil and fuel levels. Of course, when going on a car trip, you can purchase special testers that show the quality of the fluids used in the car.
Want to avoid additional stress? Plan your route in advance
Before going on a trip, it is recommended to plan your route in advance and save it in the navigation app so that you don’t have to worry regarding planning on the road. It is advisable to plan your route so that you don’t have to cross big cities during peak hours. You may also want to check in advance if there are any road repairs on your planned route, as these can also significantly lengthen your journey.
When planning your trip, you should also think regarding a variety of entertainment: download your favorite music, audio books or podcasts. If you are traveling with children, various games or books will come in handy. It is also important to plan short stops in advance, during which you can not only exercise your legs, but also see various attractions.
