The hit film series “Dune” gets its final third part

Legendary Pictures confirmed this to the industry portals “Deadline” and “Variety”. Villeneuve (56) will therefore finish his cinema adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi novels with “Messiah”. It remains unclear when the third part will be released in cinemas, but it might be in 2027.

It was known that the Canadian director wanted to make a total of three “Dune” films based on Herbert’s first two books. The first part (2021) had worldwide sales of around 400 million US dollars (approx. 369 million euros), an impressive result for a cinema film, especially in the midst of the corona pandemic. The second part (2024) currently grosses around $630 million worldwide.

The material is based on a series of novels by Frank Herbert. The story centers on the desert planet Arrakis. Only there is a special, valuable substance – which is why the planet is exploited by other powers in the galaxy and its inhabitants are oppressed. Villeneuve gathered many stars for his film adaptation, including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh and Austin Butler.
