Until 1990, the WHO considered homosexuality as a disease. Only in 2019, the body stopped categorizing trans people as people with a mental disorder. They are examples of the pathologization that LGBTIQ+ lives have received for decades in Western medicine that, even today, controls and governs people with dissident gender identities or sexual orientations.
