Topi Tjukanov, geographer and employee of Mapbox, has developed an interactive map that shows the birthplace of famous personalities. And it’s quite fascinating.
As the designer explains, “using data from Morgane Laouenan, the map shows the birthplaces of the most notable people around the world. The data has been processed to show only one person for each unique geographic location with the highest notability rank.”
We thus discover that the basketball player Tony Parker was born in Bruges, that the actress Audrey Hepburn was born in Brussels, or that Charles Quint was born in Ghent. Obviously, it’s not just Belgium, the whole world is full of names of all kinds.
