The supermarket chain is talking about it in Ireland: after opening a store opposite an Aldi, Lidl took the opportunity to “troll” its competitor.
Indeed, on its facade, we can see a sign which shows someone looking discreetly through binoculars and which indicates: “Stay close to your friends”, in reference to the proverb.
“Lidl is opening a new store in Galway. It’s next to an Aldi. This sign faces the Aldi store. Genius,” one user tweeted. “Well done Lidl,” wrote another. The message definitely did not go unnoticed by customers.
