Former world number one Japanese Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from the Australian Open. This was reported on Twitter the first Grand Slam tournament of the season.

“Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from the Australian Open. We will miss her, ”the message says.

In the main draw, the 25-year-old Japanese will be replaced by Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska.

Osaka is currently ranked 42nd in the WTA rankings. In 2019, she was the first racket of the world. For the past three years, Forbes has named Osaka the highest paid female athlete on the planet.

The Japanese woman has four victories at the Grand Slam tournaments – she won the Australian Open (2019, 2021) and the US Open (2018, 2020) twice each.

The Australian Open will be held from 16 to 29 January.
