The ‘high season’ of Russian pregnant women in Ezeiza continues: another 16 arrived in the country last night

Hours after the Justice determined the provisional entry of six pregnant Russian women who were initially detained in Ezeiza, this Friday night an Ethiopian Airlines flight landed at that airport with 83 other Russian women, 16 of whom are pregnant. The issue has become a dilemma for Migration and for the Government, because the phenomenon of this “non-tourism” threatens to become general, without there being any way in sight to avoid it and at the same time take care of the human aspect of the distressing situation that these women go through, in most cases arriving in the country without money and without a return ticket.

On Thursday, a group of pregnant Russian women had been detained at the Ministro Pistarini international airport because they did not have sufficient documentation to prove their presence as tourists, money, or return ticket. They are between 25 and 35 years old and it is believed that they arrived in Argentina escaping from the war between Russia and Ukraine, although there are also versions that it could be some mafia business that profits from their situations.

For this reason, at the same time that they are trying to contain them, an investigation is progressing at this time to try to determine if behind the massive arrival of pregnant Russian women in the national territory there is groups or organizations that run a million-dollar business.

Argentina, the ‘new Miami’: per day, almost 30 Russian pregnant women arrive in the country to have their babies

This was confirmed this Friday by the national director of Migrations, Florence Carignano: “There is a judicial investigation that is behind these gangs that bring women and men, and behind it there is a million-dollar business.”

“The problem is that they arrive, have children, leave Argentina and never come back,” raised Carignano in an interview with the news signal TN. “If we don’t start to control who we give the passport to, we are going to lose the trust we have with other countries,” he said, referring to the Russian spies who were in Slovenia with the Argentine passport.

After that he explained that “It is not a crime” to come to Argentina to have a child, but it did clarify that people “of non-Mercosur nationality”, in order to do so, must “go to the consulate and get a visa and explain the reasons.” Russian citizens who were inadmissible for a while did not have these documents, which is why they were detained.

“There is a pattern of conduct that Justice is investigating and for which Migration provided information,” said the official and to broaden the picture, she explained that in the last year 10,500 people of Russian nationality entered the country, including “5,819 pregnant women.” , and of those 10,500, 7,000 “are no longer in the country.”

fake tourism

The national director of Migrations told in dialogue with La Nación that they detected that what young pregnant women do is “false tourism”, since “they themselves admitted that they come to have their children in Argentina”.

“They arrive, they have the children, they write them down as Argentines, they leave a power of attorney to the attorneys, they leave and never come back.” added. Finally, Carignano concluded: ” We have to take care of our passport and the benefits we have achieved because we have been working to make our passport safe.”.
