Beirut – “Al-Quds Al-Arabi”: It was observed in Lebanon that the presidential vacancy, which has completed its fiftieth day, is racing with the intensification of the economic and social crisis and the unusual rise in the exchange rate of the dollar, as it exceeded 46 thousand pounds, in light of fears that this crisis might break out and reach a state of social explosion. . This insane rise caused importing companies in Lebanon to stop delivering medicines and infant formula to pharmacies due to the high exchange rate of the dollar. Yesterday, Wednesday, the head of the Pharmacists Syndicate, Joe Salloum, said, “There is an almost complete stoppage of the delivery of medicines and milk to pharmacies.” He added, “The problem is not new, but rather old and renewed. For some time now, there has been a shortage of pharmacies’ medicines, as well as cancer medicines. With the remarkable and rapid rise in the price of the dollar, there has been a complete halt to the delivery of medicines to pharmacies.” He pointed out that «companies importing medicines fail to pay their bills abroad due to the increasing escalation in the exchange rate, and pharmacies are threatened with bankruptcy».
He added, “Within two days, the stocks of most pharmacies, companies and factories will be emptied, and they will be in great trouble because of their inability to pay their bills abroad, and therefore they do not receive medicines and cannot deliver medicines, and many companies and factories are threatened with bankruptcy.”
It is noteworthy that Lebanon has been witnessing for more than three years the worst financial and economic crisis in its history, which resulted in a decrease in the purchasing power of the Lebanese, an increase in poverty and unemployment, and a sharp collapse in the national currency once morest the dollar.
In a context related to the military establishment, the Army Command announced that it had received the fourth batch of the Qatari financial donation presented by the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to the Lebanese army.
