Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — You may be among the people who do not mind sharing their personal items with others. But what you do not know is that you may contract viruses that are harmful to your health, especially in the long run, including hepatitis C virus.
And the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population stated, in a tweet through its official account on the “Twitter” website, that it is among the most common diseases that affect the liver, and may cause cirrhosis and cancerous liver tumors.
The infection is transmitted through:
- Sharing personal items, such as toothbrushes, hair clippers, and nail clippers
- It is transmitted from an infected pregnant mother to the fetus
- It is transmitted through some unsafe medical practices, such as reusing unsterilized medical instruments
The World Health Organization indicated, on its official website, that the hepatitis C virus causes acute and chronic inflammation. Acute infections are usually asymptomatic, and most do not lead to life-threatening disease.

The incubation period for hepatitis C ranges from two weeks to six months.
Following initial infection, regarding 80% of people infected with the virus do not develop any symptoms.
And for people with severe symptoms, they may suffer from fever, fatigue, lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dark urine, pale stools, joint pain, and jaundice.

The hepatitis C virus becomes chronic in regarding 70% of infected people.
