For the sake of ecology, do you think it is good to reuse your water bottles? Well, you have it all wrong. Discover the reasons why this gesture puts your health at risk.

Objects passed into our daily practices

Water bottles are part of our daily lives. Practical, they allow us to drink and enjoy the benefits provided by natural mineral water.

But be careful though. Because water bottles hide their game well. Made of plastic, these can indeed leave minute traces of particles of this same material in this that they contain.

This was revealed in 2022 by a study by the association Agir pour l’environnement. According to the latter, multiple bottles of water from the market are contaminated.

The study cited the brands Badoit, Carrefour, Cristaline, Evian, Perrier, Vittel and even Volvic.

And that’s not really what you’re looking for when you want to drink spring water! “Given their nature, it seems that most of these microplastics come from the bottle, the cork and the bottling process”noted the authors of the report.

But that’s not the only thing to be wary of with bottled water. Because for the sake of ecology, most of us also do a fatal mistake with them. Those to reuse them!

Yes, if you thought you were doing a nice gesture for the planet by doing so, forget it quickly! Because reusing plastic bottles is not at all a good idea for your health.

Without knowing it, we are already subjected to bacterial attacks on a daily basis. Most of the time, these will not harm us. But beware of those caused by reused water bottles…

Why shouldn’t you reuse your water bottles?

Made of PET or polyethylene terephthalate, our bottles have porosity that promotes the proliferation of bacteria.

Indeed, you should know that each time you drink from the neck, those coming from your mouth are deposited there. They can then infect the rest of the bottle, especially if it is never washed or disinfected.

In addition, the plastic from which commercial bottles are made contains HDPE or high density polyethylene. However, this material degrades and cracks over time, which can then allow bacteria to enter the bottle.

Polycarbonate bottles contain a chemical of concern. It’s bisphenol A.. It is simply an endocrine disruptor.

But then, what do we risk by reusing these famous water bottles? Is it so dangerous for health? According to science, bacteria growing on your bottles can give canker sores or cold sores.

As you will have understood, following using your water bottle for the first time, it is best to direct it towards the trash can. But nothing prevents you from sorting your waste.

The plastic recycled in this way can be reused in pens, bottles or polar fibres. As for tap water, do not sulk so quickly! Often decried, it is nevertheless ultra-controlled.

In case of chlorinated taste, it will suffice to let the water rest for some time in the open air or in the refrigerator before drinking it!
