The tropical air mass that arrived from the south on Friday broke heat records in many parts of Estonia, the environmental agency announced in its social media post.

The heat record was also broken in Haapsalu, where the temperature was measured at 29.6 degrees on Friday. The previous heat record on August 30 was 25.2 degrees and it came from 1951. The new heat record is also in Lääne Nigula, where 28.9 degrees was measured today. The previous record of 28.7 degrees was from 1997.

Weather forecaster Kairo Kiitsak wrote in a social media post that the tropical air mass that arrived from the south had raised air temperatures to nearly 29 degrees as of 2:30 p.m., and the temperature rise continues.

Tonight (30.08) the clouds will gradually thicken on the islands of Western Estonia and the possibility of showers and thunderstorms will increase.

The Environmental Agency predicts that the following night (31.08) a cold front will move from Western Estonia towards Central Estonia and reach Eastern Estonia during the day. Temperatures will drop from the west.

In front of the cold front, it is raining, there are thunder and heavy rain in some places. The current forecast shows that the thermometer readings will start to rise again at the beginning of September, summer is not over yet.

In the coming days, however, rainstorms must be taken into account, in some places there will also be thunder.
