L’Health Prevention Examination (EPS), reimbursed at 100%, has been in place since January 2024. It plays a crucial role at all ages. This approach offers a rapid and targeted health check, focused on prevention and screening, intended for all socially insured people and people in precarious situations. Each age group determines prevention prioritiesemphasizing the relevance of this initiative for public health.
What does the preventive health examination consist of?
What is EPS?
The preventive health examination (EPS) also called preventive assessment, allows you to carry out a health check-up quickly and easily. This preventive method has been in place since January 1, 2024.
It allows all people covered by Health Insurance to do a health check. This examination ensures screening, prevention and health education for people over 16 years old. The measure mainly targets people far from the health system and in precarious situations.
There are 85 health examination centers in France. They allow you to quickly obtain a consultation with a healthcare provider. During the examination, the beneficiary will not be able to receive care or issue a prescription. This assessment is only used to make the connection and establish medical follow-up. If the condition requires in-depth expertise, the individual will then be referred to the correct health service or a general practitioner.

What are the examinations and checks carried out during the EPS?
Following a questionnaire previously completed on site, the beneficiary will be able to be referred by a health professional. He receives medical advice according to your needs and gets answers to his questions. The healthcare professional can then direct them towards different options such as:
an oral exam, a tobacco addiction workshop, nutritional monitoring, support for physical activity, also support for isolated seniors.
That’s not all, the prevention assessment also allows you to do a complete check:
Control examinations (vision tests, respiratory capacity and hearing); Biological analyzes (urinalysis, blood analysis, etc.); A clinical examination carried out by a doctor (control of vital parameters);
The prevention consultation is also the time to inform people regarding the various assistance provided by Health Insurance and other services such as complementary solidarity health insurance.
Who can benefit from the preventive health check-up?
This preventive examination targets individuals aged over 16 in a precarious situation or far from the usual health system. It is also aimed at those who cannot benefit from regular medical monitoring, whether due to medical deserts or the absence of attending physicians. Prevention measures such as cancer screenings and vaccination apply to each age group. The objective of this approach is to re-enter the care pathway coordinated by a treating physician. Young people aged 16 to 17 can attend an EPS accompanied by a legal representative or alone, with prior signed authorization.
